Before You Close the Laptop, Leave Yourself a Better Monday
Friday afternoon has its own special atmosphere.
The inbox is still making demands. Your brain has begun packing its weekend bag. And somewhere, someone has just sent a meeting invitation for 4:30.
Bold choice.
Before you close the laptop, though, there is one small thing worth doing: leave yourself a useful starting point for Monday.
I do not mean a magnificent twelve-tab productivity system. By Friday afternoon, some of us would struggle to name twelve vegetables.
I mean five quiet minutes to capture something you learned this week and decide where it could help.
Perhaps you noticed that a project update listed plenty of activity but never said whether the project was on track.
Perhaps an invoice made you hesitate, although you could not immediately explain why.
Perhaps you tried AI and discovered that your first prompt produced a beautifully written answer to a question you had not intended to ask.
Perhaps you realized that the opening paragraph of your report makes readers hike through three pages of background before they reach the point.
Those moments are useful. Give them somewhere to land.
Write yourself a short note:
What did I notice?
Be specific. “Communication needs improving” gives Monday-you very little to work with. “Our project updates do not identify decisions needed from management” gives you a starting point.
What could I try?
Choose an action small enough to take. Rewrite one opening paragraph. Add a decision column to one status report. Check the support for one unusual charge. Improve one prompt and compare the results.
When will I do it?
Put it somewhere you will actually see it. A calendar entry. The top of your task list. A note beside the kettle, if that is your true command center.
You might write:
“Monday, 10 a.m.: revise the project update so the decision, owner, and deadline are clear.”
There. You have given your learning a job.
Professional development can happen in these modest moments. A better question here. A clearer explanation there. A concern followed through instead of waved away.
Over time, those choices change the quality of your work.
At LG3, that is what I want learning to support: practical progress you can recognize in your own working day.
So before you disappear into the weekend, leave yourself one useful breadcrumb.
Monday-you may still need coffee.
But at least she will know where to begin.
Choose one idea from your learning this week and give it a place in next week’s work.
Learn it. Grow it. Own it.
