Learn It. Grow It. Own It.

More than just because you have to

Your Certificate Is Only the Beginning

“How many credits do I get?”

It’s a fair question. If you have a professional qualification to maintain, continuing education requirements have a habit of circling back around just as your calendar fills up.

You need the hours. You need the evidence. You need to remember where you saved the certificate.

Somewhere sensible, presumably. Along with the other things you put somewhere sensible and haven’t seen since.

But there’s another question I’d love us to ask when choosing training:

“What will I be able to do better afterward?”

Because that’s where the real value begins.

A certificate records that you completed a course. The learning earns its keep when you use it.

Perhaps you finally find the words to explain a difficult issue without burying your audience in detail. Perhaps you recognize a warning sign you would previously have missed. Perhaps you discover a better way to plan your work and reclaim a little breathing room in your day.

Those moments rarely arrive with a certificate attached. Yet they can make a considerable difference.

When the Learning Leaves the Classroom

Think about the last course that stayed with you.

You might struggle to remember the slide titles. You probably couldn’t recite every definition. But perhaps you remember a story, a question, or an exercise that made something click.

Then, weeks later, you found yourself in a meeting thinking, “Hang on. I know how to approach this.”

That is learning doing its job.

As a trainer, I want people to leave with something they can use. A clearer explanation. A better question. A technique worth trying. Enough confidence to tackle something they’ve been quietly avoiding.

Of course, that asks something of the learner, too.

Before your next course, choose one problem you want help solving. During it, look for something you can apply. Afterward, give that idea a proper outing while it’s still fresh.

Even a small change can make the time you invested worthwhile.

Coming to LG3: Business Life Skills

That belief is also behind a new category coming to LG3: Business Life Skills.

Our working lives ask plenty of us beyond our technical expertise. We need to communicate clearly, organize competing demands, make thoughtful decisions, and handle conversations we’d rather postpone until approximately never.

These skills matter whether you’re starting your first job, running a business, managing people, or bringing years of experience to a new challenge.

Business Life Skills will bring that everyday side of working life into the LG3 learning mix, with the practical, plain-English approach you’ve come to expect.

Because being good at your subject doesn’t mean every part of your working day comes easily. And learning something useful shouldn’t require you to decipher a textbook before your second cup of coffee.

More details will follow as the category takes shape.

For now, I’d love you to consider this: What business life skill would make your day easier?

A clearer voice in meetings? A calmer approach to a crowded calendar? More confidence when a difficult conversation knocks on the door?

Tell us. Your everyday challenges are a good place for useful learning to begin.

And the next time you choose a course, check the credits if you need them. Then ask what you’ll take back into your working life.

That’s the part that keeps paying you back.

Learn it. Grow it. Own it.
