Well… I Did It. Welcome to LG3.

Well...I did it.

At some point, you have to stop talking about the thing you're going to do and actually do the thing.

Today is that day.

LG3 is officially open.

I would love to tell you that I woke up this morning, threw open the curtains, birds began singing, inspirational music mysteriously started playing and I confidently announced:

“I AM READY!”

Nope.

Coffee.

Definitely coffee.

And probably one last check to make sure everything was still where I left it yesterday.

Because today something I've been building, thinking about, tinkering with, worrying about, laughing about and dreaming about is no longer an idea.

It's real.

And I have butterflies.

Big ones.

Possibly pterodactyls.

But underneath those nerves is something much stronger.

Excitement.

Because today isn't really about launching a website.

It's about opening a door.

Why LG3?

I've spent a large part of my career learning.

Sometimes in classrooms.

Sometimes from brilliant people.

Sometimes from books.

Sometimes from standing in front of a room teaching other people.

And quite a few times from getting something spectacularly wrong and thinking:

“Well. I won't do THAT again.”

Those lessons count too.

Maybe especially those lessons.

Over the years, I've become increasingly convinced that professional learning should be more than sitting through a course, collecting a certificate and returning to work on Monday exactly the same person you were on Friday.

Learning should do something.

It should make you ask a better question.

See a risk you didn't see before.

Challenge an assumption.

Try something differently.

Speak when you might once have stayed quiet.

Help somebody else.

Or perhaps simply give you enough confidence to say:

“I can do this.”

That's why I created LG3.

Learn It. Grow It. Own It.

Those aren't just three words we thought would look nice under a logo.

They're the philosophy behind everything we're building.

Learn it.

Find the knowledge. Ask the question. Explore something unfamiliar. Be curious enough to admit when you don't know.

Grow it.

Take that knowledge somewhere. Test it. Apply it. Challenge it. Talk about it. Turn information into understanding and understanding into action.

Own it.

Make it yours.

Use it.

Share it.

Teach someone else.

Walk into the room knowing that you have something worthwhile to contribute.

That's where learning becomes transformation.

But LG3 Isn't Just About Me Teaching You

This may be the part I'm most excited about.

I don't want to build a learning platform where I stand on one side of the screen dispensing wisdom while everybody else dutifully takes notes.

How boring would THAT be?

I want us to learn from each other.

I have experience.

I have stories.

I have scars.

Trust me, I have stories.

But so do you.

You've worked on projects I haven't seen.

You've encountered risks I haven't considered.

You've managed difficult situations.

You've made mistakes.

You've solved problems.

You've learned things the hard way.

And somewhere in LG3 there may eventually be someone struggling with the very thing you figured out five years ago.

Help them.

That's what I want this community to become.

Not simply a place where people consume knowledge.

A place where people share it.

So What's Inside?

Okay, I suppose on launch day I'm allowed one little sales section.

We've been building a growing collection of learning opportunities designed for busy professionals who don't need more corporate blah-blah-blah.  And we are adding more each day.  And we are up for suggestions.

You'll find courses and master classes where we can dig deeper into subjects that matter.

You'll find playbooks and practical resources designed to sit beside you when the real work begins.

You'll find coaching when you need something more personal than a course.

You'll find content covering areas such as audit, projects, construction, risk, fraud, governance, AI and professional development.

And you'll find our free LG3 learning community, because sometimes the thing you need most isn't another lesson.  And if you want to, you can even join us as an affiliate, drop me a line, let's make a deal!  

It's somewhere to ask the question.

And this is only the beginning.

There are plenty more ideas scribbled in notebooks, lurking in computer folders and wandering around inside my head.

It's rather crowded in there.

I Need Something From You

Here's where you come in.

I don't want LG3 to become what I think professionals need.

I want it to become what we discover professionals need.

So tell me.

And About Those Butterflies...

They're still here.

I suspect they may hang around for a while.

But I wrote something here just a few days ago:

Sometimes you don't need to feel ready. Sometimes you just need to begin.

Well...

Apparently, now I have to take my own advice.

LG3 will not be perfect today.

I don't want it to be.

Because perfect things don't have anywhere left to go.

LG3 does.

Today is version one.

There will be new courses.

New playbooks.

New conversations.

New ideas.

New people.

There will be things that work beautifully and probably a few things that make me mutter words that will never appear in an LG3 blog.

That's okay.

Because we're not finished.

We're beginning.

One Last Thing

If you're reading this on September 9, you are here at the very beginning.

Someday, I hope LG3 is much bigger than it is today.

I hope there are thousands of conversations.

Thousands of people learning something they didn't know yesterday.

People meeting each other.

Helping each other.

Challenging each other.

And perhaps someone finding the confidence to take a step they've been afraid to take.

But every community starts somewhere.

Ours starts today.

So whether you're an executive, an auditor, a project manager, a consultant, someone starting your career, someone reinventing it, or simply somebody who remains gloriously curious...

There's a place for you here.

Bring your questions.

Bring your experience.

Bring the things you're brilliant at.

Bring the things you haven't got a clue about yet.

Especially bring those.

We'll figure some of them out together.

Because today the words underneath our name stop being a tagline.

They become an invitation.

Learn it.

Grow it.

Own it.

The doors are open.
